RailTel Corporation of India Ltd (RCIL) is a Public Sector Company Undertaking by Ministry of Indian Railways having IP-1, IP-2, Cat 'A' ISP & NLD Licenses. RCIL has already established over 42000 Kms Optical Fiber Network covering 4000 POPs across the country. MetaMAX will be leveraging this expansive fiber optical network as the back haul for connecting the WiMAX RF network across the country.

RailTel has built a ‘state of the art’ STM-16 network using latest SDH Technology for long haul communications. The complete network is managed by a centralized Network Management System located at New Delhi with backup at Secunderabad / Kolkata. RailTel has got a unique advantage to meet quality bandwidth and service requirement from single network. The state of the art network enables point and click provisioning of the bandwidth between different locations across the country. The network is available with 100% redundancy. It enables transfer of high bandwidth IP, ATM, Frame Relay, Gigabit Ethernet and other kinds of traffic.

All RailTel POPs are connected by STM-1 network elements spaced at 8-10 Km and STM-4 network elements spaced at 40-60 Km in order to aggregate traffic from important towns/cities including rural areas of the country.

RailTel has also implemented countrywide MPLS IP backbone network to provide whole range of Internet and VPN services
